As the owner and creator of Retro Girl Design, Melissa designs products that speak to the child in all of us. Her motto: Who says you can’t relive your childhood? She lives in the South where she blogs, writes, she is currently writing her first novel set in the ’80s, relaxes with her two shelter cats, and rocks out to ’80s music on her yellow Walkman.
Melissa is very passionate about animal welfare. She makes an effort to not use any animal fiber or products only acrylic, cotton, and synthetic yarns. She also typically uses Eco-Fi felt, which is made from recycled plastics. All items come from a smoke-free, but a cat-friendly studio and are handmade by Melissa. This makes each item unique in its own way, which is why no two items are exactly alike.
Retro Girl Design’s inspiration comes from themes found in Melissa’s childhood, memories, imagination, and the ’70s and ’80s.
Melissa’s creations and patterns have been featured in various craft publications, including Simply Handmade: Be Mine, Stitch | Craft Create Spring 2013, Interweave Stitch Gifts 2014, and Craft It Now!
