My One Word

I always feel so refreshed when a new year starts. This year is no exception. 2016 was pretty rough for me, so I am really looking forward to wiping the slate clean and starting fresh!

I, along with probably everyone on the planet, have a list of resolutions. But this year I really wanted to go a step further and really focus on one similar theme. So I decided to come up with a word of the year.

You might have already heard of the My One Word challenge. The goal is to get you away from making resolutions and to have you focus on one word throughout the entire year. I really liked this concept, especially since I tend to forget my resolutions as the year goes on.

My One Word

2016 was a very challenging year for me, so much so that it sent me into a funk that was really tough to get out of. I felt so drained all year that I really didn’t want to do anything. My crafting, blogging, and writing became obsolete. So I really wanted to choose a word that would help me focus and get back on track.

After thinking long and hard I finally picked my one word that I can really put to good use in 2017.
My word this year is. . .

CLEANSE

While this is probably not a word people normally choose, for me it just worked. With everything that happened or didn’t happen in 2016, I became very negative and down. It wasn’t how I was used to feeling.  To cleanse is to “make something thoroughly clean”, “rid a person, place or thing of something seen as unpleasant, unwanted, or defiling”, or “free someone from sin or guilt”. I have quite a bit of cleansing to do, but in 2017 I will focus on these 4 areas:

  1. Mind/Soul – I will replace all negative thoughts and attitude with 100% positive. No more looking at the glass half empty. I felt so disorganized and frazzled for most of 2016. It will be nice to get back on track.
  2. Body – I have already begun to make my transition back to clean eating. It is really a simple switch but takes a bit of planning. I do feel a whole lot better when I eat healthier, though.
  3. Stuff – My house has become a nightmare! I have “stuff” everywhere. I even have stuff in my attic I haven’t seen since I moved into my house 8 years ago. So, 2017 is the year that I will purge cleanse my house of all the stuff I don’t need. This includes more than half of my craft room. I’m going to try to use up a lot of my stash, but what I can’t use I will sell. If you are interested in craft supplies (yarn, scrapbooking/journaling, notions, jewelry making, cross-stitch, books) keep an eye on the blog. I’ll begin adding items to my RetroGirlDestash shop, hopefully by the end of January. I’ll be sure to post here and on social media when my stuff will start showing up in the shop.
  4. Expectations – I put so many expectations on myself that I get bogged down trying to achieve all of my goals at once. This year I am going to forgo any expectations with my shop, blog, writing, career, etc. and focus on having fun! Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still set goals for myself. But I won’t feel so bad if they don’t get done on time. If I get that craft project done by the end of the month, great. If not, I’ll just keep working on it until it gets done.

I am pretty excited to start putting my one word to use. Bring on 2017. . .
